Summary

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

 

  • Collaborate with our Design Teams, Sourcing Team, Manufacturing and our Supply Chain to evaluate new parts and product designs to ensure manufacturability and improve speed to market. 
  • Analyze and determine the most cost-effective methods to produce new products and define the appropriate tooling and/or equipment requirements and their associated cost.
  • Evaluate existing and potential Suppliers to optimize success of supplier relationships by providing a good match of specific tooling projects with Supplier capability.
  • Evaluate outsourced die designs to ensure construction, costs, and lead times are inline with budgeted expectations.
  • Ability to quote new parts, including method, tooling costs, production material requirements, type of equipment, maintenance costs, setup costs, rates and lead time.
  • Maintain project schedules, cost estimates and budgets using MS Office software and SAP.
  • Make final determination of die designs to meet manufacturability and maintainability requirements.
  • Assist the tool room, internal fabrication departments and suppliers with troubleshooting issues and tooling assessments.
  • Research potential cost savings opportunities for New Product Development and current production tooling and/or the manufacturing processes using continuous improvement techniques. 
  • Supports global tooling programs.  Travel is required.
  • Support run offs and implement new tooling into production.  Debug and tryout new dies at Weber or our Supplier facilities globally.
  • Implement new stamping tooling into production.  Support tooling debug and tryout of new dies (globally) and help drive PPAP submission / qualifications for new or modified tooling.
  • Develop design standards that meet both internal and Supplier requirements.
  • Evaluate and implement set up processes to improve overall manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Manage and maintain tooling logs, reports and Cad file data.
  • Assist with issuing purchase orders and processing invoices.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • The candidate must be knowledgeable in metal fabrication and tool room machining processes.  Experience with welding and finishing processes a plus.
  • The candidate must be able to design stamping tools.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels from the shop floor to Executive level to justify strategies and implement them effectively.
  • Is an effective problem solver, with ability to utilize analytical techniques to resolve conceptual issues.  Able to shift in approach to developing creative solutions that will result in a technological edge over competition.
  • Must be experienced with SolidWorks and AutoCad.
  • Must be proficient with MS Excel software.
  • Ability to work well under compressed time constraints
  • Experience with DFA, FMEA, DOE and Six Sigma tools is a plus.

 

Education and/or Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and/or Tooling Design.
  • 5-10 years of experience in related field
