The Supplier Quality Manager (SQM) will plan and execute the global supplier quality strategy.  Ensure that suppliers around the world deliver parts, components, and materials in accordance with regulatory requirements and Weber quality standards.  Interact with Strategic Sourcing team to identify and develop world class suppliers.  Provide leadership and guidance to the supplier quality team members around the world.  In addition, provide direct functional leadership to the US-based Supplier Quality / Incoming Quality Assurance teams to assure alignment and consistency among teams. The SQM will primarily reside at headquarters, but will make regular visits to the US manufacturing facilities. 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead supplier quality activities for new product introduction with suppliers, components and purchased finished goods including effective project management, coordination, and deployment of resources, and writing and delivering reports and assessments.
  • Develop and evaluate the quality assurance models for Global Supplier Quality (including Contract Manufacturing) and structure on a strategic level and adjust as needed.
  • Partner with strategic sourcing team to improve new supplier qualification process.  Assist in the selection of new Global suppliers and support buyers to obtain the best value components in relation to quality, delivery and cost.  Engage early in our New Product Commercialization processes to ensure good supplier/material selection in the development of new products
  • Oversee supplier PPM KPI’s and prepare management reports with completed and planned actions.
  • Implement supplier risk assessment process and scorecard program in conjunction with sourcing and planning teams.
  • Oversee SQE’s collaboratively with plant quality and operations teams to resolve issues with purchased components. Communicate with suppliers, work with them to resolve problems and issue formal supplier corrective actions (SCARs) when appropriate.
  • Conduct supplier audits (US, Mexico) in support of the qualification program. Develop strategy in support of outsourcing, localization, and new product development activities.
  • Make written and verbal recommendations to improve Weber Quality Management System.
  • Obtain, understand and apply company quality and engineering standards to purchased products
  • Compare drawings and specifications to product or part manufactured and determine compliance
  • Oversee supplier control plans and internal receiving inspection plans prepared by team members.
  • Drive continuous process improvement (CPI) activities at suppliers using various systems, such as  Value Stream Mapping (VSM) Kaizen , PFMEA, Control Plans, and 8Ds
  • Serve as the technical liaison between Weber and its suppliers.



  • Experience in supplier quality management, quality assurance, plant quality processes, process validation, non-conformance management, complaint management, design assurance, auditing, team resource management, leading teams. 
  • Strong skills in Supplier Management (evaluation, re-evaluation, controls, approved supplier listing)
  • Supervisory experience with excellent independent judgement and interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.
  • Strong technical writing skills and attention to detail
  • Quality Assurance (incoming inspection, rejection, non-conformance processes)
  • Design Assurance (understanding of design and development process and design controls)
  • Strong critical thinking skills applying and cultivating new approaches to problem solving with a focus on achievement of overall project goals
  • Familiar with quality systems such as ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949, PPAP.
  • Familiar with metrology and measuring techniques.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Working knowledge of statistical process control and Six Sigma processes
  • Working knowledge of SAP desired
  • Must be willing to travel when required.  10-20 % annual travel expected.


Education and/or Experience

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or other Engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years working in Quality roles within Manufacturing, Supplier, Sourcing.
  • 3+ years experience leading a supplier quality team.
  • 3 years experience working with PPAP procedures, APQP (Control Plan & PFMEA), PPAP and ISO
  • Experience in problem solving techniques including root cause identification and corrective action implementation.
  • Experience with FMEA, Control Plans, SPC and PPAP (Quality Core tools).
  • Demonstrated ability to work under the ISO 9000, IATF 16949 standards.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred.
  • ASQ Certified Manager of Quality / Operational Excellence (or equivalent experience) desired.
