Job Description:  Senior Accountant, Canada

(supporting Weber Canada operations in Toronto, but role based in Palatine, IL)

 

Job Summary:


Reporting to Sr. Manager, US Accounting, the Senior Accountant, Canada, will be responsible for the oversight of the accounting function’s daily operation for Weber’s Canadian business (approximately $60M in revenue).  The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the entire Canadian general ledger and trial balance (primarily comprised of cash, accounts receivables, prepaids, inventory, accounts payable and accruals), monthly P/L results analysis and explanations, income tax return and audit support, and other activities as needed.
 

Key Responsibilities:
 

  • Maintain overall control of the General Ledger and ensure that system enhancements, accounting changes, reporting changes, etc., are appropriately considered and implemented
  • Ensure that appropriate controls are followed to safeguard the integrity of the company’s financial statements
  • Ensure all journal entries and accruals are posted accurately and in a timely manner
  • Liaise closely with Canadian Finance Director; highlight any anomalies or watch-out items to Accounting Manager/Finance Director in preparation for month-end close
  • Verify appropriateness and accuracy of inter-company charges to/from the U.S. and Canada
  • Detailed preparation & analysis of account reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliation to ensure that financial systems and bank activity agree
  • Ensure accurate completion of GST/PST/QST/HST reconciliations and returns
  • Support the completion of local and international income tax requirements
  • Ensure that payments to third party vendors are remitted in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with payroll practitioner and provider to ensure accuracy of payroll processing
  • Liaise with external auditors, focusing on providing evidence and explanations as required
  • Manage the allowances and deductions for all Canadian retailers
  • Liaise with corporate Accounting team to ensure consistent policy application and treatment of similar items/issues listed above
  • Facilitate, collaborate, and provide support to other disciplines within the Canadian organization as required (e.g., operations, sales, and marketing)
  • Complete ad hoc tasks/projects as needed

 

Education and Experience:
 

  • 4-6 years of accounting experience; public accounting/industry combo a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (ideal) or Finance is a must; CPA is a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP and Excel required; SAP version S4 HANA experience is a plus
  • SOX or general internal controls experience is a plus
