Summary

Assist various new product development teams in building a solid model data base for complex product assemblies, mechanical analysis, and engineering documentation.  Needs to work independently within a fast-paced R&D team environment to meet generally defined project objectives.  Works collaboratively with project teams to generate solutions to solve design challenges and optimize cost and specification.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned

  • Assist various new product development teams in building 3D solid models for complex product assemblies, mechanical analysis, tolerance stack-up and engineering documentation.
  • Strong design for manufacturing knowledge of injection molded, die cast, and sheet metal parts.
  • Use best practices for 3D modeling to modify and create parts and assemblies used for prototyping, quoting, and production tooling.
  • Needs to work independently within a fast-paced R&D team environment to meet generally defined project objectives.
  • Maintains project documentation in established formats.
  • Identifies and communicates potential risks and suggested solutions to leadership.
  • Represents R&D in project meetings.
  • Performs assignments as a member of a cross functional work team involved in the planning, organizing, and developing of complicated projects. 
  • Coordinates work drafters and technicians to achieve goals.
  • Work with the R&D Shop and Lab to prototype, build and test design concepts.
  • Work requires a working knowledge of precedents in consumer product design.

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Ideally a 2-year technical associates degree or equivalent and 3-5 year’s relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Primary requirement is a very strong working knowledge of SolidWorks modeling software for injection molded, die castings, formed/drawn sheet metal, and parts with complex shapes. 
  • SolidWorks Professional Certification is desirable. 
  • A strong sense of creative mechanical design and basic manufacturing processes is also required.
