Packaging Engineer

 

Summary: Weber is seeking a talented and motivated Packaging Engineer to join our Research and Development (R&D) team at our Palatine, IL facility to create and validate packaging solutions for our grills and accessories.

 

The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing innovative packaging solutions that ensure the safe transportation and presentation of our products to customers worldwide. The Packaging Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to design, test, and implement packaging solutions that meet both functional and aesthetic requirements while adhering to industry standards and regulations.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Packaging Design and Development: Develop packaging solutions for a diverse range of products, considering factors such as product dimensions, weight, fragility, and environmental impact.
  • Material Selection and Testing: Research and evaluate packaging materials to ensure they meet quality, durability, and sustainability standards. Conduct testing and analysis to assess the performance of packaging materials under various conditions.
  • Cost Optimization: Collaborate with procurement and manufacturing teams to identify cost-effective packaging solutions without compromising quality or functionality.
  • Prototype Development: Create prototypes and mock-ups of packaging designs using CAD software or physical modeling techniques. Iterate on designs based on feedback and testing results.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with cross-functional teams including R&D product development, manufacturing, and marketing to align packaging designs with product specifications and branding guidelines. Communicate effectively to ensure alignment on project timelines and objectives.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about relevant regulations and standards related to packaging materials, labeling, and transportation. Ensure packaging designs comply with applicable regulations in target markets.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and innovation in packaging design and development. Proactively seek feedback and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of packaging operations.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required.

 

Work Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in packaging design and development, preferably in a consumer products or manufacturing environment.
  • 1+ years with document management systems (e.g., version control, revisions, etc.) is a plus.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for packaging design and modeling.
  • Strong understanding of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and supply chain logistics.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to packaging (e.g., ISTA, ASTM).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with multiple teams.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet tight deadlines and communicate deadline concerns if in jeopardy.
  • Experience with sustainability initiatives in packaging design is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 required (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.)
