The Research and Development Laboratory Manager will lead, organize, and prioritize the activities within development, regulatory and reliability labs to maximize product performance as it relates to those key design metrics for each category, product platform and new model launches. This position will manage lab personnel and drive lab processes for continuous improvement activities as well coach and develop people to their full potential by fostering a positive and learning environment. The Lab Manager will also provide input to strategic decisions and will be responsible for building a high-performance team to support all product categories.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide pre-agency testing for all products that have to comply with agency's standards. This could be for gas grills, electric grills, charcoal grills and pellet grills domestic and world wide.

  • Coordinate and manage all activities within the development and reliability labs to support all new product launches and their respective development schedules.

  • Drive Benchmark activities with a focus on performance and consumer expectations.

  • Provide expertise of product and product reliability test procedures.

  • Adopt and nurture the use of Six Sigma tools into the test plans.

  • Coordinate and maintain a historical log of data for all laboratory tests.

  • Develop schedules and prioritize work for assigned personnel in relation to the defined goals and objectives for each project.

  • Manage activities and personnel to meet or exceed company objectives.

  • Work with multiple labs to develop and maintain standardized testing plans

  • Provide leadership and support in developing plans for future growth, in maximizing our product performance, and in building the relationship between regions.

  • Provide updates to management and project teams as required.

  • Analyze lab data and correlate to product design requirements.

  • Drives continuous improvement activities through team participation, project reviews, and result analysis

  • Maintains and develops self certification for gas compliant projects and work to develop certifications in other categories



  • 10+ years’ experience as a lab manager or engineer performing product testing to industry and/or agency requirements on products with medium to high complexity.

  • Degreed engineer, Master’s degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma tools and principles (DOE, Statistical methodologies, etc.)

  • Project management skills

  • Knowledge and Experience working with ISO/IEC 17025
