Summary:

We are seeking a Cost Engineer with 2-3 years of experience to join our Supply Chain Strategy team. The Engineer will partner with Finance, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Logistics to understand the true cost of the product and ensure all unnecessary costs are eliminated. The ideal candidate will support cost estimation and management activities, perform BOM analysis, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cost-effective product designs and manufacturing processes. Reporting to the Cost Manager, this role involves conducting supplier audits, analyzing cost data, and assisting in negotiations to drive cost-saving initiatives.

 

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Perform Bill of Materials (BOM) analysis for new and existing products estimate BOM costs and perform make vs. buy analysis.
    • Assist in BOM cost management activities to support program teams.
    • Analyze cost data to identify cost-saving opportunities and enhance productivity.
    • Collaborate with Finance, R&D, Product Management, and Sourcing to ensure cost-effective designs and mfg. processes.
    • Conduct Supplier BOM audits to verify and validate cost structures.
    • Review and analyze supplier quotes to ensure competitiveness and accuracy.
    • Assist Sourcing in negotiations based on BOM analysis and project requirements.
    • Utilize Excel and other software for cost estimation and analysis.
    • Prepare and present cost reports and analyses to management.
    • Monitor and report on cost trends and variances.

 

  • Qualifications and Skills:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field).
    • 2-3 years of experience in cost engineering or cost estimating and experience with BOM analysis and reviewing supplier quotes.
    • Proficiency in MS Excel for data analysis and reporting.
    • Knowledge of BOM structures and cost estimation techniques and familiarity with manufacturing processes and materials.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Willingness to travel as required to conduct supplier audits and workshops.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with cost estimating in metal fabrication, plastics, and coatings.
    • Familiarity with global market trends and their impact on cost structures.
    • Proficiency in using cost estimation software tools.
