The director of US manufacturing will be directly responsible for overseeing all operational activities in the Huntley and Palatine facilities and will coordinate closely with all facets of the operations and supply chain organizations.   The director of US manufacturing must have a passion for people, processes, and data. This individual will lead operational excellence through active team mentoring and a personal desire to run the business using data from all levels of the organization.  This position requires a strong technical background and exceptional interpersonal skills, as well as a combination of strategic and tactical operational expertise.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drive safety awareness through training, process improvements and daily management of safety programs with production leaders

  • Meet and exceed production targets through execution, accountability and close collaboration with planning

  • Drive for increased profitability with a strategy that focuses on reducing labor and overhead costs

  • Minimize rework and scrap while adding new manufacturing technology and practices to improve quality

  • Bring operational excellence and continuous improvement practices to a drive improvement in labor efficiency

  • Drive the use of technology as a tool to achieve operational excellence

  • Assess, develop, coach, or replace operations leadership; build a high-performance operations team that embraces lean, seeks continuous improvement, engages employees, and responds well to program and product requirements and changes

  • Participate in the development of the objectives and business plans for the organization and lead the operations team in the execution of those plans. Set clear objectives and priorities for the operations team that drive business growth and profitability.

  • First year success expectations

    • Sustain and improve safety performance to injury rate < 1

    • Launch and stabilize utilization of new ERP system to support business plan and drive process excellence in material movements

    • Improved quality and reduce scrap by 50%+

    • Improve labor efficiency to reach annual productivity targets

    • Improve on time delivery to above 98%



  • A Bachelor degree in mechanical/ industrial engineering or a technology discipline is required or an equivalent of 10 years experience leading in a manufacturing environment. Experience in fabrication, metal coatings and high volume consumer goods assembly are preferred. A Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt certification (or the lean equivalent) is beneficial.

  • At least 15 years’ experience in a manufacturing organization; ideally in the metal fabrication and coatings sector where high-speed production is the norm

  • A track record of moving away from the status quo mode and empowering employees to make change and seize opportunities to improve productivity and efficiency 

  • Significant previous experience with improving operating performance, scrap reduction, and cost reduction while adding new processes and technologies to improve throughput, quality, and customer satisfaction

  • Previous experience and the willingness and ability to mentor/coach his/her leadership team in the areas of executive presence, presentation skills, and their ability to train and develop their direct reports

  • A successful track record leading a hands-on operational transformation while improving both operational and financial performance through the implementation of improvement methodologies

  • Demonstrated success in developing an operational strategic planning process that flows to the annual operating plan and results in dramatically improved financial and operational performance
